Diabetes Presentation Latest in Health Education Series

Village at Proprietors Green continues to offer timely Consumer Health Education programming on a range of topics. Dr. Kristen Helm, with a specialty in endocrinology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Harbor Medical Associates and South Shore Hospital, recently gave an informative presentation on the various types of diabetes, current pharmaceutical treatment options, and the treatment of other vascular risk factors.

Diabetes is defined as a group of diseases, affecting the body’s ability to produce or use insulin. Rates of the disease are particularly high among adults 65 and older, with 25 percent of that population living with diabetes. Additionally, it’s estimated that more than 84 million individuals 18 years old and older have pre-diabetes.

Celebrating Mother’s Day

Village at Proprietors Green never misses an opportunity to celebrate its residents. Mother’s Day provides the perfect occasion to honor the women in our lives who are mothers. At Village at Proprietors Green the celebration is always multi-generational – just like a big family!

Owls Visit Proprietors Green!

There were no ruffled feathers when naturalist Marcia Wilson and her husband, photographer Mark Wilson brought several of their permanently disabled owls to Village at Proprietors Green for an educational visit. The “Eyes on Owls” program allows the residents, staff, and families to learn about the various owls native to New England and their habitats. The owls in the program could not survive on their own in the wild.

Professionals Hop to It – The Annual Bunny Hop, that is!

Professional colleagues from healthcare, home care, elder law, and the community-at-large were invited to the Bunny Hop, one of several annual Appreciation Events at Village at Proprietors Green. It is the senior living community’s way of saying thank you to the professionals who refer clients to one of the Village at Proprietors Green’s three neighborhoods, independent living, assisted living, or memory care.

Valentine’s Day Tea

It was a lovely day for a Valentine’s Day Tea at Village at Proprietors Green. Delicious heart-shaped chocolate cookies, steaming tea, pressed linens, trivia, and women in their finest hats were all part of the festive celebration. Valentine’s Day fell on Ash Wednesday this year, marking the beginning of Lent, and many residents, in keeping with their faith tradition, received ashes on their forehead.

Village at Proprietors Green Celebrates Scituate at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

In Scituate, green was everywhere during the 24th Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Village at Proprietors Green residents and staff took the community bus to celebrate with the town residents. Over the years, many individuals from Scituate have moved to the Marshfield Senior Living Community. The merry group from Proprietors Green tossed candy to the onlookers and wished everyone the “Luck of the Irish.”

Singer Mary Clark Thrilled Residents!

Mary Clark, classically trained as an opera singer, sang for residents of Village at Proprietors Green. She was a true crowd-pleaser, with a beautiful rendition of composer Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America.”
