Every Little Effort Will Do Your Heart Good

You’re probably not thinking about heart health when you floss your teeth and get into bed every night, but both regular flossing and getting a good night’s sleep are among the things you already do that help keep your heart healthy. The Cleveland Clinic includes both daily flossing and getting more than six hours of sleep a night in an article titled, “5 Things To Do Daily To Keep Your Heart Healthy.”

February is American Heart Month. Heart disease risk factors include having high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and/or diabetes – conditions you can identify by visiting your healthcare provider, who may prescribe medications to help control them. But making small changes to things you already do can make a positive impact on heart health. Healthcare providers recommend eating more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean meat and to exercise within safe limits. One way to make what we should do more fun is by trying foods you’ve never tried before or participating in an activity you’ve always wanted to try.

Throughout the year, residents at Village at Proprietors Green have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including wellness and fitness programs, ballroom dancing, walking on the community walking path in nice weather, and Wii bowling, to name a few.

Chances are, you’re already engaging in some good habits to reduce your heart disease risk. Keep in mind that every little effort you make to step up those healthy habits will do your heart even better. Also, remember to consult your personal healthcare provider about your individual nutritional and exercise needs.

Just in Time for Valentine’s Day: Professional Networking Paint & Sip

The collegial and cozy first-ever Paint & Sip Professional Networking Event at Village at Proprietors Green brought out everyone’s inner artist. Referral partners from around the South Shore had an opportunity to engage with their colleagues as they hand-painted two wine glasses. Art teacher Jeanne Runewicz provided instruction. Anyone who had not previously toured the community was encouraged to do so.

Say Goodbye to Loneliness

There is a growing body of evidence that social isolation and loneliness take more of a toll on individuals who lack social connections than most people realize. Researchers presented the most recent findings on this subject at the 125th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association, and concluded that loneliness and social isolation are serious public health issues that must be addressed.

At Village at Proprietors Green, we understand the importance of social engagement and offer older adults a wide variety of ways to stay socially active. The community features art and exercise classes, exciting lectures and themed parties, author talks and book signings, musical entertainment and frequent inter-generational events and programming, to name a few of the many opportunities for social engagement.

A Culture of Caring based on “Doing the Right Thing” Theme of Welch Senior Living Awards Dinner

During the annual Welch Senior Living Awards Dinner celebrating long-term staff, Principal Paul T.
