The family’s dedication to helping others began in 1949, when Rita and Thomas Welch founded the John Scott House in their home in Braintree, Massachusetts to provide care and health services to frail seniors. Today, the Company employs over 1,800 staff members and caregivers to serve the needs of seniors and their families.

National Development

Since 1993, Newton-based National Development, one of the most experienced senior housing firms in Massachusetts, has completed 20 independent and assisted living residential developments. Village at Proprietors Green is the third senior community that National Development has built in partnership with Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group.

Many of National Development’s senior housing projects have been recognized as the best and most innovative in the country.  National Development communities have won top design awards for six individual communities and the firm’s work has been published in Architectural Record.
