Community-at-Large Turns Out for Dementia Presentation by Dr. Danny Mendoza

Village at Proprietors Green recently welcomed Dr. Danny Mendoza, chief of psychiatry at Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth. Dr. Mendoza, a geriatric psychiatrist, talked about the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and many forms of dementia such as vascular dementia and Lewy body dementia. His easy-to-understand presentation provided a wealth of information for individuals whose loved ones, colleagues, or friends may be dealing with a dementia diagnosis.

In the question-and-answer period, Dr. Mendoza was asked about contributing factors that might bring on dementia and whether certain medications could result in dementia-like symptoms. Throughout the informal presentation, he stressed that earlier diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s and other dementias can lead to better treatment over time.
